Volunteer With Us

The strength of Step into Work (SIW) rests with the facilitators and if you are interested in assisting us, we would be delighted to hear from you. SIW volunteers come from a range of
backgrounds, typically with expertise in human resources, recruitment, training, coaching, management, work/health balance or stress management.

Good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with others are essential. Experience in facilitating or delivering training programs is not essential but
highly valued. Time management and flexibility are important for ensuring programs run efficiently.

Participants come from a wide variety of demographic and cultural backgrounds. Accordingly, volunteers must possess empathy and cultural sensitivity and be able to interact
in a patient and supportive way.

Our volunteers need to be available during school terms at least once per year, to attend a program site for 6 consecutive weeks for 1 hour the first week, then 2.5 hours for 5 weeks.

As volunteers we all help each other out, so volunteers take turns assisting at other programs during the year, as much as they can. Before taking on a lead facilitator role, volunteers are required to attend a full program as an observer. You will also have an up to
date NSW Working With Children Check, or be able to obtain one.

We operate our programs at various locations around Sydney, such as Rockdale, Punchbowl, Seven Hills, Seaforth, so having your own transport is important.

We work as a caring, collaborative team who enjoy working together to help women on their journey to Step into Work!
